Why #38?Tombides was diagnosed with testicular cancer at 17 and played on between rounds of chemotherapy, wearing 38 in 2010/11 and 2011/12, 39 in 2012/13, then 38 again for his last season. He died in April 2014, aged 20. The day after, his father and brother laid his 38 shirt on the centre spot at the Boleyn Ground, and West Ham retired the number — the only one they have put away besides Bobby Moore's 6.Source: en.wikipedia.org
