What we collect
Squad Numbers is a reference site. We do not require accounts. We collect anonymous usage analytics (pages viewed, searches made) to improve the site. If you submit a number story, we store the text you provide and, if you choose to give it, your email address — used only to credit or contact you about that submission.
Cookies and advertising
We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are useful. In the UK, EU and Switzerland no analytics cookies are set until you consent in the message shown on your first visit — if you don't, Google Analytics stores nothing on your device. Your IP address is anonymised. You can change your choice at any time with the "Privacy settings" link at the bottom of every page.
If you consent, we also use Microsoft Clarity to see how pages are used — where people click and scroll, through heatmaps and recordings of visits with text you type masked. Like Google Analytics, Clarity is not loaded at all unless you consent.
Advertising
Squad Numbers may show adverts served by Google AdSense, which helps pay for running the site. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on those visits.
In the UK, EU and Switzerland, advertising cookies are only used with your consent, which you can give or refuse through the consent message shown on your first visit. Without consent you may still see adverts, but they won't be personalised.
You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's My Ad Center, and out of personalised ads from many other vendors at aboutads.info. For more on how Google uses this data, see how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Your rights
You can request deletion of any personal data you have submitted (such as a story submission email) by contacting us. See the contact page for details.
Data sources
Squad number data is compiled from publicly available sources. If you believe any information is inaccurate, use the "report incorrect" option on the relevant page.
